It’s always nice to recap on why laser dentistry is the best. For those of you that haven’t had the opportunity to experience all the benefits of laser dentistry, you’re in for a real treat. Due to the advances in the dental industry laser dentistry has made it much easier for patients that may have “dental anxiety”.

According to an article at articlesrx.com, “list the benefits of laser dentistry”

“Laser dentistry is an easy decision whenever it is available. Dental care providers that offer it know it offers patients improved service. No one likes going to the dentist, but if you could get this type of procedure, you may be more willing to climb into that big chair. You may even find that any treatment available using high powered lasers really makes dental work easy to manage. The more you know about these procedures, the better.

The Advantages

The use of laser dentistry is growing. In these procedures, dentists use very high-powered lasers that have excellent accuracy. The goal is to handle the procedure with more precision and in doing so most people will see significant benefits. The following are some of the advantages you may experience by having these procedures.

• Most people say that this type of procedure reduces pain. Patients note there is a lot less pain and sometimes no pain at all. This treatment does not cause any vibrations, which means your nerves are not relying pain messages to the brain.

• The accuracy that comes from lasers is one of the main reasons dentists turn to these products. With these procedures, the result is usually better. This means identifying and treating conditions like cavities is more precise. That makes the job easier to manage for both the dentist and the patient.

• You will have a shorter recovery time after the procedure. In most cases, laser dentistry can reduce the recovery time considerably. This is because of the increased precision and the reduced pain. It also is a more effective procedure in most cases, which means the problem is gone faster.

• Often, these devices are easier to manage by the dentist. This makes the entire dental procedure more manageable for most patients. You will not have to deal with uncomfortable positions or tools in your mouth. Overall, most people say the lack of stitches, anesthesia or other treatments makes the procedure a good one.

• In some situations, this type of dental care is also more affordable. Because you will need fewer treatments and because of the improved accuracy, these procedures can actually reduce the costs associated with dental care. The costs of having this type of procedure are being reduced as more dental care providers offer the service, too.

Laser dentistry can be a good idea for many types of treatments. If your dentist does not offer this type of treatment, you may want to look for a provider that does. It can make all of the difference in the way you feel after your appointment. It may not be necessary to put off those dental appointments anymore. Ask your provider if he or she offers these types of treatments.”

So you go into a grocery store looking to purchase mouthwash, with all the options how do you choose? How do you know which one is best for you and your family? Do you know what to look for when purchasing mouthwash? Is there really any difference between a household brand name and store brand product?

According to an article at dentistry.com, “which mouthwash Is best for you?”

“Standing in a mouthwash isle the other day I couldn’t help but wonder who wouldn’t be bewildered by the variety of mouthwashes available to people today? On Internet newsgroups and in practice I’m often asked what mouthwash to use. Well, it depends on what you are after.

If you’re after fresh breath try a breath spray or breath drops. The alcohol in most mouthwashes is very drying to the oral tissue. This is of particular concern if you’re taking medications that dry your mouth. If your only goal is to make your breath fresh you do not need to subject yourself to the alcohol.

If you find out from your dentist you have gingivitis, look for a mouthwash that contains essential oils. Essential oils have shown promise in killing the bacteria that cause gingivitis. The drawback is the presence of alcohol.

If you’re just one of those people that like to use mouthwash, use one that contains fluoride. The mouthwashes that contain fluoride are very beneficial to re-building weakened enamel. It is very safe to use for anyone able to spit it out. Read the directions! It’s time sensitive.”

In previous blogs I know that I’ve discussed oral health topics and what not to eat, but this article puts a little spin to the topic. The Dental Health Foundation in the UK has a bill that health care professional’s especially dental professionals to discuss the importance of diet and lifestyle with patients. What a great way for patient education for parents and children at each dental appointment.

According to WorldDental.org a Dental Health Magazine, “calls on dental professional's to improve oral health with patient education to parents when their children visit their dentist.

With oral health greatly affected by diet, exercise, smoking and drinking habits, the British Dental Health Foundation believes the move will hopefully encourage more people to consider how their lifestyle could be affecting not just their health, but also their oral health.

Previous research has shown frequent consumption of sugary foods and drinks can damage oral health, while studies have also demonstrated people who stay fit and healthy are 40 per cent less likely to develop tooth-threatening gum infections that could lead to gum disease.

Mouth cancer also remains a big issue in the UK with the incidence of mouth cancer cases rising by 46 per cent since 1997. An estimated 30,000 people will die from the disease over the next decade unless more is done to change lifestyles, especially attitudes to smoking, alcohol, diet and exercise – some of the main risk factors for mouth cancer.

“Taking the time out to discuss a patient’s smoking habit, alcohol consumption levels or poor diet could save lives, as all of those are associated with the risk of developing mouth cancer.

“Finding out that a patient doesn’t brush their teeth two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste could potentially set them on the road to developing a good routine and save them having to endure restorative or emergency work later in life.

“If the healthcare profession and particularly the dental profession discussed with their patients how their oral health could be improved, I firmly believe we would see the number of developing dental diseases fall across a period of time."
