J.S. McElhinney III, D.D.S.
Dr. McElhinney has been practicing dentistry in Reno, NV since 1978. He graduated in the top 7% of his class at Boise State College and graduated in the top 25% of his dental school class at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Nevada Dental Association and Northern Nevada Dental Society. He has been a member of several study groups in the past and currently is actively participating in the Reno-Tahoe Dental Excellence Study Group, which brings in guest lecturers and sponsors hands-on training courses in various specialty areas of dentistry. He is a member of Los Medicos Voladores and has been on several health care missions to poor villages in Baja, Mexico.
Although Dr. McElhinney is a “general dentist” by legal classification, his many years of extensive post-graduate education and training allow him to enjoy emphasizing comprehensive dental treatment, cosmetic rejuvenation, laser dental techniques and implants.
Dr. McElhinney is an avid alpine skier, enjoys hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and music, especially jazz, and sings tenor in his church choir. He has two grown children.

Dental Assistant
Kym has worked in the dental profession since 1985. She is a registered dental assistant and spent the first 19 years of her career in South Lake Tahoe, where she ran a 1-assistant office, doing both chairside assisting and all the business aspects of a dental office. She is well versed in all areas of dentistry. She then moved to Reno in 2004 and is Dr. McElhinney’s primary chairside assistant. Kym was recently married and she has 3 adult children.
